
Is being openly gay in the music industry the kiss of death to a career? In the music business men are expected to show their masculinity through their rampant cursing, their huge diamond chains around the neck, and the saddening exploitation of women. How many times have you turned on a Trey Songz, 50 Cent or any other male artist music video, and saw naked females that often had nothing to do with the song itself? Since Frank Ocean officially revealed his sexuality, tongues have been wagging about what the repercussions could be for his career. such as will his album sale? Will he face a negative backlash? And even worse, is this the end of his career? But why is that?
Why is it that a man can be ridiculed for being gay but praised for calling a woman a bi****? Why is it that a man can be ridiculed for being gay but praised for throwing bottles in a club? Is being gay the new black? And if so, why is it socially acceptable for this injustice to occur?
